Bridget Riley and Op Art- The process
- Well known British Artist, celebrated for his optically vibrant paintings, called "Op Art".
- She explores optical phenomenon and juxtaposes color either by using chromatic technique of identifiable hues or by selecting achromatic colors.
- Her work appears to flicker, pulsate and move, encouraging viewer's visual tension.
This is "White Disks" by Riley that cause a flickering effect when looked at from left to right.
She works meticulously and carefully mixing colors to achieve the exact hue and intensity she desires.
She starts of with exploring color interaction first in small goatee color studies, then moving to full-size paper -ad-gouache designs. The large-scale canvases are then marked up and painted entirely by hand-first in acrylics and then in oil.
